Staying true to yourself is important

Many times in life we do things to impress others. These others maybe your parents, your siblings, your friends or just general people in your society whom you haven't even met. We are also very afraid of judgement from these same people and to escape that we do things to impress them and the world. This is how we can feel safe from judgement and also have a sense of accomplishment.

I am talking about our career and life goals. We tend to orient them around people around us and not around what we actually want to do and who we actually are. A lady who is born an artist starts shooting for government exams and jobs. She does this not because she wants to, but because her parents told her to do so. A man born a football star strives to be in the medical field to be a doctor. He does this not because he wants to but because his family is full of doctors and no one really goes for sports. This is how we kill people from inside. By doing this the person will never be truly happy and fulfilled and they will also be a low class doctor or government worker. They will never be able to be the best in their profession. Because in order to be the best, they have to love that career or job. They have to be true to themselves.

Don't rip out and leave behind your true self. Your passion is a gift to you not a curse. Image by lisa runnels from Pixabay

Dale Carnegie once said, "If you are not in the process of becoming the person you want to be, you are automatically engaged in becoming the person you don't want to be." How true these words are and they were uttered almost more than 50 years ago. Don't ever get in the process of being the person you don't want to be. It is a slow and painful process and it will destroy you forever. You think you will be keeping your family safe and happy by going into that prestigious profession rather than doing what you love to do then you are wrong. When you try to become something you are not you rip out and leave behind a part of you without which you will never be whole. You will always be unsatisfied and unhappy and your family will be able to taste that. Kids are able to taste that from afar. The life you will lead and the time you will spend with your family will not be full of happiness if you are not happy and fulfilled from the inside.

Now, you may ask me, that you want to do something in which you can't get any money unless you work in that field for ten years! How are you supposed to support yourself and your family for those 10 years. The answer to that question is simple and given by Gary Vaynerchuk and Jordan Peterson as well. If you love a career that does not get a lot of money unless you work very hard and try many things in it then you have to get a job that keeps your body and soul together. You don't have to go to be a super professional in that job. Just get a regular job which does not require any professional skills and do it. Keep following your passion in the side. That is the only way. If you keep doing that for years and years then you will be able to build yourself a business that will allow you to leave your day job after a few years. You may also get so well known in the industry that some big player or company will hire you for a position related to your passion and offer you huge money. And more than money, it will allow you to be yourself. That is the most important thing. Be yourself, don't be someone you are not. A doctor should be a doctor but a dancer should not try to be a doctor as well. Take care.
